The Federation of Churches of Andhra Pradesh brings together the Christian communities of various confessions in the south Indian state.

"We made sure that, as requested by the Pope, the day will be a significant opportunity for prayer, reflection, conversion and adoption of appropriate lifestyles," said a statement from the federation.

The communities of the local faithful organized several initiatives and celebrations involving other religions communities, who appreciated the invitation and enthusiastically joined in the activities proposed.

Religious leaders and devout Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and indigenous cults took part in the meetings promoted by Christians.

They all share the desire to become "guardians of the creation that God has entrusted to humanity," said the federation.

In the meeting the "Canticle of the Sun" of St. Francis of Assisi and the concluding prayer composed by Pope Francis in his encyclical Laudato Si’, were recited.
