AAP victory reflects hope of millions: Delhi archbishop

The "historic victory" of Aam Admi Party and its leader Arvin Kejriwal reflects the "hope and aspirations" of millions of people of Delhi, says Archbishop Anil Couto of Delhi.
Kejriwal's AAP has won 67 of the 70 seats of the Delhi Assembly. While the BJP could secure only three seats and congress failed to win even one.
"The landmark victory of Arvind Kejriwal and his party in the Delhi assembly elections reflects the hopes and aspirations of millions of Delhites who have given an unprecedented mandate," Archbishop Couto said in a press statement.
He expressed hope that the new government led by Kejriwal "would work towards welfare of all irrespective of caste, creed and class and more importantly towards social peace and religious harmony.”
In the background of recent attacks on Churches in Delhi, Archbishop Couto also expressed hope that "the new government would act swiftly and ensure that proper law and order is maintained in the national capital."
Just two days before elections, Delhi police detained more than 100 Christians, including priests and nuns, who were protesting a Feb. 2 attack on a church in south Delhi.
It was the fifth attack on a church in Delhi in a span of two months. The community has been facing such incidents since December 1, when fire engulfed the St Sebastian Church in the Dilshad Garden area of Delhi.
A few days after the church-burning incident, a Catholic church in Jasola area was stoned by unidentified people. A crib was allegedly burned earlier this month while a service was being held in a church in the Rohini area of Delhi.
On January 14, a Catholic church was attacked and its grotto damaged by three unidentified men.
