Pune: Three men broke into a church in Pune and decamped with two donation boxes containing 25,000 rupees.
After an internal meeting, Father Santosh Vasant Salve (38) of Saint Francis De Sales Church in Chandannagar lodged a complaint against the suspects with the Chandannagar police station on Feb. 17.
Senior police inspector Anil Pathrudkar said the footage obtained from the CCTV cameras has revealed that the the three men were lingering around for about an hour before committing the crime.
"One of the security guards deployed on the premises of the church has given us the detailed description of the trio. He has also given us the cellphone of the one of the suspects which fell while he was trying to flee the spot," Pathrudkar said.
Pathrudkar said the church building has a rear wooden door and it is suspected that the men armed with iron rods broke open the door to gain entry into the building. "Once inside the church, they picked up the donation boxes and fled," he added.
