Christian priests join new year procession in Maharastra

Thane: A large number of members from the Christian Community Friday participated in the Nava Varsha Swagath yatra, which was taken out in Thane, under the banner of the Sri Koupineshwar Nyas.

The procession started from the Koupineshwar temple in the heart of the city with members from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Rajastan having participated.

Participation of the Christian Community was the center of attraction during the new year procession. The Christians led by Fr Joshua and Fr Daniel, wore the Saffron Upparna (cloth worn around theneck) and walked in the procession.

Sister Amla of the Holy Cross Convent and Parvez Besania of the Parsee community group also graced the occasion.

Others e who attended the procession included Thane Guardian Minister Eknath Shine, MP Rajan Vichare, MLA Sanjay Kelkar, Thane Mayor Sanjay More and District Collector Dr Mrs Ashwini Joshi.

One of the organisers was seen moving the powerpoint plan of the entire procession and monitoring the movement of around 50 floats, which participated, webindia123 reported.

The floats which gave messages of save girl child, save water, among others and sermons of various spiritual gurus was the main attraction.

For the first time, members of the Assam Community lead by Deepankar Borgaohian, the General Secretary of the Association, participated in the procession.
