Bengal church vandalism: Caretaker arrested

Kolkata: (UCAN) Right from the beginning the police had suspected that the raid was different as there was no evidence of the robber's entry or exit point.
The police cracked the Taherpur church case and arrested a man called Tapan Mondal who happened to be the caretaker of the church.
The church was vandalized last week on Friday. A senior police official said on Monday, that “it was an insider’s job.”
He said that the arrested man had confessed to his crime. Right from the beginning the police had suspected that the raid was different as there was no evidence of the robber’s entry or exit point. All the doors and windows were secured and intact.
However, working on the crime scene and interrogating the staff members the police finally cracked the case on Monday. 
The arrested caretaker was produced before Ranaghat court and remanded to custody. But the caretaker about 64 year old fell sick and had to be admitted to a hospital. 

The Priest of the Taherpur church Father Satish said that it was very embarrassing to find one of the church workers was involved in smashing the tabernacle from inside the church and later smash it. 

Father Satish said that the police prior to arresting the caretaker consulted the church authorities. 

The caretaker – an old man was appointed about a month a half ago in the post. He had worked as caretaker in other churches as well, said Father.
